Georgia Hand Turkey Their First Defeat

Georgia secured a memorable 3-1 victory over Turkey in their opening match of UEFA EURO 2024 in Tbilisi on Friday.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave Georgia the lead in the 56th minute and doubled their advantage 10 minutes later. Turkey pulled a goal back through Emre Mor in the 79th minute but Giorgi Chakvetadze sealed the victory with a third goal in added time.
Georgia, making their debut at a major tournament, started the match brightly and came close to scoring in the 15th minute when Kvaratskhelia hit the post. Turkey gradually grew into the game, but they were unable to find the breakthrough before half-time.
Georgia continued to press after the break and took the lead when Kvaratskhelia curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. They doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Chakvetadze's cross found Kvaratskhelia, who headed home from close range.
Turkey pulled a goal back through Mor, but Georgia held on to secure a famous victory. The result leaves Turkey with a mountain to climb in their remaining two Group A matches, while Georgia will be confident of reaching the knockout stages.
