Greg Sharpe to Miss Nebraska Football Call Friday as UNL Lecturer, Local Broadcaster Fills In

Sharpe Out Due to Family Emergency

Greg Sharpe, the veteran play-by-play voice of Nebraska football, will miss the Huskers' game against Northwestern on Friday due to a family emergency.

Sharpe, who has called Nebraska football games for more than 30 years, will be replaced in the booth by Matt Coatney, a lecturer in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Communication Studies and a local broadcaster.

Coatney to Call Game with Lyght

Coatney will team up with color commentator Damon Lyght in the booth for the game, which will be televised on FS1.

Coatney is a familiar voice to Nebraska football fans, having served as the play-by-play voice for the Huskers' radio broadcasts on the Husker Sports Network since 2019.

Sharpe Expected Back Soon

Sharpe is expected to return to the booth for Nebraska's next game, a home contest against the Indiana Hoosiers on October 1.

The Huskers are 1-2 on the season after losing their first two games to Northwestern and Georgia Southern before bouncing back with a win over North Dakota.
